Advent in Oxford

martina3683

I haven’t been much active on this page lately as I was busy with work and life. But as a reward for all the work, I gifted myself for my birthday a trip to Oxford to see the advent markets there and, of course, to revisit some Tolkien related sites. Here are some highlights from my trip.

The graves of Tolkien and Edith and their children, John and Priscilla in Wolvercote Cemetery.

The Blackfriars’ Church Tolkien used to attend.

The graves of Hugo dyson and Charles Williams in Holywell Cemetery.

Random shots of Tolkien’s works in a bookshop.

A passageway believed to be an inspiration for C.S. Lewis. The door frame features a faun and nearby is a solitary lamp post. The Weston Library’s decoration is likewise inspired by Lewis’s Narnia.

The library currently holds a exhibition on manuscripts, featuring this one as well as one from W. H. Auden.

I attended a walking tour through the libraries, including the Radcliffe Camera. This are the ceilings inside.

Another stop on the walking tour was Divinity Hall which served as an infirmary in Harry Potter films.

I also went up the tower of the University Church of Virgin Mary which Lewis used to attend. Here are shots from its inside and a panoramic view from the tower’s top on the Radcliffe Camera.

And finally, here are shots from the Christmas/Advent market.

About us

A page for all Tolkien lovers.

We used to run a fan page of the same name on Facebook since 2015 and on Instagram since 2018. Due to the policy changes on those platforms, we decided to move elsewhere. So here we are! You can also find us on MeWe.

The admins are two ladies from Central and South Europe. One of them researches Tolkien’s work academically. So you can expect to find here shared a wide range of contents, from fan art and Tolkienesque crafts, through the professor’s own art and lore, to serious academic insights on his work... anything appreciative of J. R. R. Tolkien’s creation.

Enjoy!
